Almost time to get on the road again!

Tomorrow is D-day...departure day! We went to Target today to get the essentials. Thanks to one of my students, Raphie, I had a gift certificate to help with the purchases. What do you need for a trip across the United States? Here's my list:

1. water
2. string cheese
3. a lawn chair (which we forgot so I will be going back later!)
4. sunscreen
5. toothpaste
6. hair bands
7. some books, including one by Bill Bryson about Small Town America

We will soon find out if that is really all you need to drive across the United States! What would be on your Target list?

Here is a picture of the map that AAA gave us. I'm sure Kalman, my map lover, will enjoy seeing this picture! The orange line shows the giant circle we will be making. The little circles are all our stops along the way.

Our first circle...Louisville, Kentucky! We leave tomorrow morning and hopefully, if all goes well, we will be at the Super 8 by tomorrow night.

Last night in Massachusetts for a while!

Well my bag is almost packed! Tomorrow morning I will be flying home to Virginia. I couldn't resist purchasing a new hat. I'm not sure if it will fit in my bag and not get smashed! But since we are going to be driving down south...I needed a cowboy hat!

Here are the books I've been reading to get me ready and try to plan where we will go. I can't wait to get on the road! Goodbye Massachusetts...see you in a couple weeks!

Planning our trip!

Only a few weeks left before my mother and I start off on our big adventure across the United States. Mom drove up this past week from Virginia to spend some time in my classroom and to help plan our cross country road trip. I will be flying down to Virginia on June 28. Then on July 1 we will load up the Explorer and head west! Our first stop will be Louisville, Kentucky...home of the Louisville Slugger Factory and birthplace of ME!!! After Kentucky, we will be making stops in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee. Should be a good July 4th in either place. I will be recording all of our stops and uploading pictures of the sights so be sure to check back daily to see where the traveling teachers are each day!
